You found a video on X you want to keep, tapped and held it, and nothing happened. The X app has no Save button, and iOS won't let a random app write to your Camera Roll anyway. So the video just sits there, unsavable.
Safari is the way around that. Paste the tweet link here, download the MP4, and it lands in your Files app. From there it's one tap into Photos. No App Store download, no account, and no watermark burned across the clip.
If you save videos often, you can add this page to your Share Sheet or wrap it in an Apple Shortcut so any tweet is two taps from your Camera Roll.

In the X app, tap the share icon on the video post and choose Copy Link.

Paste the link into the box above. Safari handles the download more reliably than in-app browsers.

Pick a resolution and tap Download. When Safari asks, choose Download again to save the file.

Move it into Photos
Open Files, go to Downloads, tap the video, then Share and Save Video to send it to your Camera Roll.

Where do downloaded videos go on iPhone?+
By default they land in Files under Downloads. Open the video there, tap Share, then Save Video to move it into Photos and your Camera Roll.
Do I need the Shortcuts app?+
No. Safari on its own works fine. A Shortcut just saves you a couple of taps if you download often.
Does it work on iPad?+
Yes, the same way. iPadOS Safari saves the MP4 to Files, and you move it into Photos with the same Share step.
Why can't I just long-press the video in the X app?+
The X app doesn't offer a download option, and iOS blocks third-party apps from writing to Photos directly. Going through Safari is the supported route.
